Renu Robotics is a San Antonio, Texas-based technology company founded in 2018 that specializes in autonomous vegetation management solutions for utility-scale solar and energy facilities. The company designs, manufactures, and deploys all-electric autonomous mowing robots that operate with minimal human oversight, helping facility owners reduce maintenance costs, labor requirements, and carbon emissions while maintaining optimal solar panel performance.
Renu Robotics’ flagship product is the Renubot, an autonomous electric mower purpose-built for solar farms. Over 100 units are currently operating in the field across 20 states, from Maine to Hawaii. The Renubot features a low-profile, 28-inch-high body that safely mows underneath solar panels and site infrastructure. It employs applied artificial intelligence and machine learning for object detection and terrain assessment, RTK GPS for centimeter-level positioning, ROS-based software with more than two million lines of code, and advanced sensor fusion for autonomous navigation along pre-mapped paths.
Each Renubot returns autonomously to a self-charging Recharge Pod that protects the unit from weather, enables rapid charging (supporting 24/7 operations with multiple units), performs software updates, and downloads performance data. The robots are equipped with flat-free tires, high-traction drive wheels, an automatically adjusting mowing deck, and lithium batteries optimized for extended seasonal performance. A centralized Mission Control platform continuously monitors, controls, and updates fleets in real time, allowing asset owners and operations teams to view performance, location, and maintenance status via computers, tablets, or mobile phones.
These systems typically deliver 30–50% cost savings compared with traditional mowing crews, eliminate the need for on-site oversight, enable nighttime operations for safer and more efficient scheduling, and significantly reduce carbon emissions through fully electric operation. Renu Robotics also offers different sales and service models tailored to customer needs.
