Orchard Robotics (also known as Orchard or Orchard AI) is a U.S.-based agricultural technology company building an AI-powered precision farming platform for specialty crops. Founded in 2022 by Thiel Fellow Charlie Wu, the company aims to secure America’s food supply by creating the “AI farmer” — a data-driven system that makes farming more profitable, efficient, and sustainable. Orchard focuses primarily on high-value perennial crops such as apples, grapes (wine and table), blueberries, cherries, almonds, pistachios, and citrus. The company designs, assembles, and supports its technology entirely in the USA.
Orchard does not build full autonomous robots. Instead, it develops AI vision and data intelligence systems that mount on existing farm vehicles (tractors, ATVs, etc.) to provide hyper-precise, per-plant intelligence at scale.
Key Robot-Based / AI Vision Products:
- FruitScope Vision: The core hardware product — a rugged, AI-powered camera system that mounts on any farm vehicle. As the vehicle drives through rows (at speeds of 1–12 mph), it captures high-resolution data on every single tree, vine, or plant. It delivers detailed insights on fruit count, size, color, health, canopy density, and more.
- FruitScope Vault: A secure, scalable data platform acting as the system-of-record for farm intelligence. It tracks billions of individual fruits across millions of plants and multiple seasons.
- FruitScope OS: A modern farm management software suite that turns raw vision data into actionable insights and decisions. It integrates with existing farm operations and supports planning for pruning, spraying, thinning, irrigation, harvest, and marketing.
- Canary (Coming Soon): An advanced AI decision engine trained on massive crop datasets. It will provide autonomous recommendations and optimization across the entire farm operation.
Orchard’s platform helps growers move from guesswork to precision management. Customers report major improvements in labor efficiency, input optimization (water, chemicals, fertilizer), yield prediction, and profitability. The system is designed for easy adoption with strong in-field support and next-day data turnaround.
