Profile
Civ Robotics is a construction technology company founded in 2018 that develops autonomous robotic systems for high-precision layout and surveying tasks on large-scale infrastructure and solar farm projects. With R&D roots in Israel and operations in the United States (San Francisco), the company focuses on solving labor shortages and inefficiencies in traditional land surveying and construction staking. Its solutions enable dramatically faster, more accurate, and safer point layout compared to manual crews.
Civ Robotics specializes in all-terrain autonomous marking robots that translate digital construction plans into physical markings on the ground. These robots are particularly valuable for solar farm development, civil engineering, earthwork, road construction, and general infrastructure projects where laying out thousands of precise points is required.
Key robot-based products include:
- CivDot and CivDot+: The flagship autonomous ground robots for construction layout. They use GNSS/RTK positioning combined with laser marking systems to stake points with high accuracy — up to 3/100’ (8mm) precision on the CivDot+ model and 1/10’ (30mm) on the standard CivDot. Features include tilt compensation for uneven terrain, autonomous navigation, and the ability to mark 1,000 to 5,000 points per day (compared to 200–450 points for a traditional crew).
- CivMove: A supporting robotic solution designed to further enhance efficiency in moving materials or equipment during layout operations.
The systems are engineered to be user-friendly — no prior surveying experience is required, allowing general laborers or interns to operate them effectively. Key benefits highlighted include unmatched speed (up to 8x faster), precision even in challenging terrain, reduced labor costs, and improved safety by minimizing time workers spend in active construction zones.
Civ Robotics has gained strong traction with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractors globally, operating on 5 continents. The company has received investment from Trimble Ventures and continues to innovate in autonomous construction robotics.
