Profile
Awabot is a French robotics company that specializes in mobile telepresence robots, enabling remote users to be physically present and mobile in distant locations through high-quality video, audio, and navigation. Founded in 2012 by Jérémie Koessler and now with over 15 years of experience, the company has become a global leader in robotic telepresence. It focuses on breaking social isolation and fostering inclusion across education, healthcare, business, and events. In 2021, as a France Relance plan winner, Awabot relocated manufacturing of its core system from the United States to Vénissieux, France, to support local production and sustainability.
The company’s flagship products are its two mobile telepresence robot models: Awabot One and Awabot Pro. These systems function as advanced avatars that connect via Wi-Fi or 4G to a user’s computer, tablet, or smartphone. Once connected, the remote operator can see and hear the environment in real time while driving the robot around, turning virtual meetings into embodied, mobile interactions that feel far more natural than standard video calls.
Awabot One (previously known as Beam) is the more compact and widely deployed model. Standing 1.35 meters tall and weighing 17.7 kg, it is designed for everyday environments such as classrooms, offices, and homes. It offers up to 8 hours of battery life, travels at speeds up to 3 km/h, and features a dual-camera system with HDR technology for clear video even in varied lighting. Additional capabilities include noise-cancelling microphones, automatic parking to a charging station, seamless content sharing, and enterprise-grade end-to-end encryption. Its sleek, unobtrusive design allows it to blend into professional or educational settings while providing stable, tilt-resistant mobility.
Awabot Pro (formerly BeamPro) targets higher-demand and more challenging spaces. Taller at 1.58 meters and significantly heavier at 50 kg, it is built for events, crowded areas, industrial sites, or noisy environments. It includes a larger 17-inch screen, six microphones with advanced echo cancellation, and enhanced audio-visual performance for bigger rooms. The Pro model offers greater customization options (including branding) and robust construction with a metal chassis. Like the One, it runs for up to 8 hours on a charge and supports intelligent fleet management through Awabot’s dedicated software platform.
Awabot does not simply sell hardware. It provides end-to-end project management, technical support, user training, and a centralized administration platform for fleets. This has enabled the company to orchestrate the world’s largest telepresence robot deployment—over 8,000 units and more than 200,000 users globally. A standout project is TED-i, run by the French Ministry of National Education, which has placed more than 1,500 robots in schools to help hospitalized or homebound students continue their education and stay socially connected.
Beyond education, Awabot robots have supported inclusion at major events including Formula 1 races, NBA Paris Games, the Olympics and Paralympics, and various cultural performances, allowing hospitalized children and people with reduced mobility to participate in real time. In business environments, the robots facilitate remote collaboration, factory oversight, and customer visits without requiring physical travel. The company also offers rental options such as Flexi’ Beam® to make the technology more accessible for shorter-term needs.
Awabot maintains a strong emphasis on security, reliability, and human-centered design. Its solutions reduce carbon footprints by replacing travel while delivering what the company describes as a true “teleportation” experience. With headquarters and manufacturing in France and growing international operations, Awabot continues to expand its use cases while positioning robotic telepresence as a practical tool for a more inclusive, connected world.
