Profile
Clearpath Robotics (a Rockwell Automation company since its 2023 acquisition) is a leading Canadian developer of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and autonomous mobile robot (AMR) platforms. Founded in 2009 in Kitchener, Ontario, by University of Waterloo graduates, the company specializes in open, ROS/ROS 2-compatible research and industrial robotics platforms. Clearpath enables rapid development, testing, and deployment of autonomous systems for academia, research institutions, and industrial customers across manufacturing, logistics, mining, agriculture, aerospace, defense, and more. It has delivered solutions to over 500 organizations in 40+ countries.
Clearpath’s platforms are known for ruggedness, high customizability, strong payload capacity, and seamless integration with sensors, manipulators, and autonomy software. They emphasize open-source compatibility (especially ROS), extensibility, and out-of-the-box functionality to accelerate innovation.
Key robot-based products include:
- Husky (including the latest Husky A300): A rugged, medium-sized outdoor/indoor UGV with excellent payload capacity (~100 kg) and speed. It is highly customizable for research and industrial autonomy development. Packages like Husky AMP include integrated sensors and OutdoorNav autonomy software for faster deployment.
- Jackal: A compact, weatherproof, high-speed UGV ideal for rapid prototyping and outdoor research in a portable form factor.
- Warthog: A large, all-terrain amphibious UGV capable of operating on land and in water, with heavy payload support (~272 kg) for demanding outdoor missions.
- Ridgeback and Boxer: Indoor-focused platforms designed for heavy payloads and manipulator integration. Boxer is adapted from the industrial OTTO 100 AMR.
- Dingo: Lightweight, compact indoor/outdoor platforms suited for education and smaller research projects.
Clearpath also offers OutdoorNav autonomy software, a full suite of sensors (LiDAR, cameras, etc.), manipulators, and custom integration services. Its industrial division (OTTO Motors) provides production-ready AMRs for material handling in factories and warehouses. The platforms support simulation (Gazebo), easy sensor integration, and are built for real-world reliability in challenging environments.
As part of Rockwell Automation, Clearpath continues to expand its industrial AMR offerings while maintaining its strong research robotics heritage. The company provides comprehensive support, including customization, training, and an online store for components.
