Profile
RealSense is an independent computer vision technology company specializing in advanced depth-sensing solutions for robotics, automation, and physical AI. Recently spun out from Intel with $50 million in new investment, RealSense is headquartered in Cupertino, California, and operates globally. The company positions its technology as “The Visual Cortex of Physical AI™,” delivering millimeter-precise depth, motion, and spatial intelligence that enables machines to navigate, perceive, and interact safely with the real world.
RealSense does not build complete robots. Instead, it provides the core vision hardware and software that powers intelligent robotic behavior. Its flagship products are stereo depth cameras, including the D455, D435i, D415, D405, and newer industrial models such as the IP65-rated D457 (GMSL/FAKRA), the PoE-enabled D555, and the D456 USB variant. These cameras deliver high-resolution 3D depth data in real time, even in challenging lighting or outdoor conditions, making them ideal for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), humanoid robots, collaborative robots, and industrial automation cells.
A major focus for RealSense is humanoid and advanced robotics. The company showcased first-of-its-kind humanoid autonomous navigation at NVIDIA GTC, where its cameras enable precise perception for safe operation around humans. Case studies highlight deployments with partners including LimX Dynamics (humanoid perception and action), MiR (next-generation AMRs), RightHand Robotics (dexterous manipulation), Trossen Robotics, and many others. The technology supports obstacle avoidance, mapping, stair climbing, dynamic docking, and real-time object tracking in warehouses, factories, agriculture, and healthcare robotics.
RealSense also offers depth modules and processors for custom integration, a robust SDK 2.0, and supporting tools for developers. Its ruggedized and filter-equipped cameras (such as the D435f series) extend usability into harsh industrial and outdoor environments. Beyond robotics, the company markets RealSense ID for secure facial authentication in access control systems.
With cameras powering an estimated 80% of the world’s autonomous robots, RealSense continues to expand its portfolio of scalable, production-ready vision systems that bridge robotics and AI.
