Current platforms support payloads of several pounds (recent models up to ~5 lbs or more in testing) with a typical operational range of ~6–12 miles round-trip. Deliveries use a tether system that gently lowers packages from a safe hover altitude (~20–30 feet) without landing, enhancing safety and efficiency. Drones are highly automated, with advanced AI for route planning, obstacle avoidance, weather resilience, and fleet coordination.

The full ecosystem includes automated “Nests” (launch/recovery hubs) located near partner stores. These hubs handle charging, maintenance, and payload loading with minimal human intervention, enabling scalable 24/7 operations. Wing also develops supporting software for airspace management, customer apps, and integration with retailer systems.
